Wow BV!!!! The man's a legend!!!
Now we just have to work out how it's gonna work. I like the points idea for 1st, 2nd, 3rd but we need to find a way of dealing with the Mullins hotpots as they are clearly going to win a lot. What about my idea of betting W/O them, just in the races where they are massive odds on faves?

It might not be as big a problem as we think really. Which horses other than Douvan and Faugheen are massive odds on? I know he has plenty others at bigger prices with big chances. Still plenty of time to think about it though :D

I think we should leave Mullins horses in, the obstacles are there to be jumped, they can bring down any horse. To nullify the Mullins effect is to use our present system, as we can get a bigger reward backing a place horse than taking the odds on.

I agree with you Eagle, a race is a race and shorties are there to be shot at - there's often more value in the places with a shortie in as well. Maybe we just stick to the points on price method like we use on the board now and measure that way, seems less complicated and we are all familiar with it anyway so shouldn't be a problem?

I agree. Ditch the points idea and work from profit. That negates the 'Mullins' factor :D

Are we getting close to agreeing a format for this competition now? Will be sending through £100 to Brian to be in safekeeping towards the prize early next week, so we need to thrash out the rules and everything to get it all in place now - it's not that far away! :). It's going to be a prize worth competing for, so lets make it a good one!

I'm not sure if we have BV. I think we should go with profit though rather than points though. It reduces the chance of people being tied on points and negates the Mullins hotpots too. I don't fancy being the one to add it all up though lol. I get an in built calculator on my admin log in but would have to rely on my brain in a forum run competition. Not a good idea haha.
Regarding prizes, I think there should be enough prize money to reward 1st, 2nd and 3rd and maybe a prize for the biggest odds winner as I think Chief suggested.
Are we going for £10 per entry?

Only just seen this forum.

I'm in at £10 entry for sure, I think profit is the way to go with maybe a bonus prize for the biggest profit winner. Depending on entries do 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.

Only 1 tip per race and you have to tip up in every race?

Would it be better that we all maybe have to email in our selections by a set time? Brian (or whoever over sees things) can ensure we all within the rules then. No posts on here so we cannot see each other's selections? Could do an update at the end of each day with current standings maybe and then a dramatic reveal at the end for the winners as we won't know how others got on? Add even more excitement?

I've been thinking about this some more and if we're running this on the forum I think points is the way to go. It's easier to keep track of and serves as a bit of a change in tactics from the usual monthly competition.

Obviously we don't want everybody just going for favourites in every race though so perhaps we could have more points for a non-favourite that wins or places or more points if over an agreed odds range. Exactly how many points though is the question!

How about 2 points for fav win, 4 points non-fav win and 6 points for win over 10/1... or something similar?

Then 1pt for a placed fav, 2pts placed non-fav and 3pts for a horse placed over 10/1 SP?

Hi Brian, yes that points system for winners sounds good but I don't think we should bother at all with e/w tips. Find the winner only for each race. No e/w and you must submit a tip for every race.
What is going to decide if it is a favourite though? The SP?
